Barley grass
You don’t want this in your pasture. Just look at these photos. These are the seeds that cost you a fortune in vets bills for horses and dogs paws as they work their way in due to the spear head on them, they only go in and don’t come out. My dog walker had one go in through her dogs mouth and eventually emerge out through the eye. Dog spent six months in vet hospital. Get out there now, snip off the heads, bag them and remove them.
Control is by hard grazing or mowing when there are no seed heads, of course. Some limited success with over sowing with only Italian rye and clover (not ideal for us horse owners) and nothing else. Herbicide spray is an option but unfortunately the only type that works is the type that kills all grasses as well ....glyphosate. A resilient little critter isn’t it? My advice is to get in there and dehead them and take the heads away to dispose of. Remember where your patch was and graze it hard April and early May. If overtaken in a pasture you may need to plough it all up and have a three year plan for its eradication best devised by an agronomist who can help you create an environment detrimental to its germination.
Two main types, soft and wall. Wall is the worst but both can injure
